2016 Weekly Newsletter, no 1,

Games round-up

While most of us are still working our way through the remaining mince pies and selection boxes, several of our senior players have already been in action with county squads in the Walsh Cup (hurling) and the O’Byrne Cup (football). So, as we throw another log on the fire, please spare a thought for these early birds! We wish all the best to those lads playing for the first time with the senior county teams, so the best of luck to Aaron Maddock, Joe O’Connor and Harry O’Connor.

Coiste na nÓg Registration Nights

Please pencil 26 February (Friday) and 1 March (Tuesday) into your diaries as those will be our registration nights for all underage players, coaches etc.

The different underage Coiste teams are slowly stirring to life and the minors will actually have their second training session this Friday, 22 January, with the adult mens’ teams. First match for the minors (football) is provisionally scheduled for 28 February and our under 16s and 14s will start their seasons on the weekend of 13-14 April.

Irish Scholarship: Colaíste Cholumba, An Cheathrú Rua, Conamara, Co. na Gaillimhe.
Anyone interested in nominating a paid up member of the club aged between 14 - 18 years of age for this co-sponsored 3 weeks in the Gaeltacht is reminded to email Cian with the child’s name and date of birth ASAP but by Wednesday 27 January at the latest. We will have a draw, if necessary, before the end of January to select the Club’s nominees.

Anyone who has indicated an interest before Christmas is asked to RECONFIRM same ASAP.

Coaching courses

Please note that Wexford GAA is running a series of coaching courses and a Foundation level course will be held in St. Martin’s on 30 January 2015. You’re advised to book early as there is limited availability on all courses. Booking link :

At this juncture nearly all our coaches have undergone formal training with only a handful due to attend the above course. This reflects the Club’s commitment to provide the best possible coaching to our youngsters and this is an area that will continue to be focused on in 2016.

Club Lotto

Finally, the Club Lotto numbers drawn on Monday 11 January were 16, 25, 27 and 32. We had one “Match 3” winner, Amy Furlong, who claims €50. The giant €15,000 jackpot rolls over for yet another next week and it’s never too late to sign up to the Lotto, or buy a weekly ticket. We’d like to thank all those who’ve signed up recently to the lotto; if you’re interested in buying or selling weekly tickets (which are proving to be a great success) simply contact Club Treasurer, Frank Codd, at 087.6593553.

The next draw will take place on 25 January as we’re taking 1 week off to allow for the switchover from a 28 to a 32-number game.
