U10 Hurling Blitz - Sept 22 2012

What a great day in Piercestown today (Sat 22nd).

Over 200 boys, from 5 counties took part in an U10 Blitz and produced some breathtaking hurling. Ballincollig & Blackrock from Cork, Nenagh from Tipp, Ballygunner from Waterford and O Loughlin's & Thomastown from Kilkenny were the visitors, each with two teams, and our own two squads of boys more than holding their own in their company.

Each squad played 4 matches with our lads taking on O Loughlins, Thomastown, Nenagh & Blackrock, and all played out in glorious weather conditions to the aroma of BBQ's going full tilt.

It's fair to say that the day was a huge success, and huge credit is due to the parents of the lads involved who stepped up to the task of ensuring everything ran as smoothly as possible, and that no one went home hungry.
Special thanks to the boys of minor, U16 & u14 who helped out with refereeing and umpiring, keeping controversy to a minimum.

And of course to the Clubs that visited - a huge thanks for making such an enormous effort, many of whom had very early starts this morning.
Some brilliant hurlers there today, and no doubt a future All Ireland winner or two among them.

Weekly Notes - September 17th

Our under 12 footballers had a great win against Our Ladys Islands/St Fintans on Sunday in the final of the Sean Kehoe tournament organised by Kilmore, on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-10. It was a very close game all the way through and the boys were a point down going into the last quarter. It's great for these lads to win some silverware and was well deserved after a great season.

The U10 boys had a terrific and hard fought win in the Division A Final of the Kent Stainless U10 Football Tournament in Wexford Park as they pulled back a single point deficit heading into the final quarter to overcome a very good Shelmaliers squad on Tuesday evening.
3 goals in the third quarter had put the Shels a point ahead, on a scoreline of 3-3 to 2-5, but these boys love a battle and dug deep to record a well deserved win.
Well done to all the boys, what a great bunch of lads, all of whom played their part. Hard luck to the Shels squad on a great performance, in particular in that third quarter when they had the Martin's on the ropes.
The U10s also played Oulart in hurling later in the week, and came up just short in another very entertaining and skillful game.

The younger boys of the U8s and U6s hosted a very successful Blitz last Sun week, when teams from St Anne's, Shelmaliers & Our Lady's Island took part, while on Saturday last the U8s and U9s both took part in the annual Roanmore Blitz, taking on teams from Kilkenny & Waterford and acquitting themselves really well. The U9's started off with a win against Mullinavat, before very narrowly coming up short by a goal each time against both Mount Sion and Abbeyside. The U8's beat teams from both Abbeyside and Graig-Ballycallan, but missed out on 3 wins from 3 in the game v Thomastown.

Our minor hurlers played in the county semi final in Kllurin against rivals Rapparees. The game ended on the narrowest of margin with Rapparees winning out on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-10.
After the disappointment of such a narrow defeat, the team focus now switches to a county football semi final against Shelmaliers. This game will be played on Sunday next, Sept 23rd, at Patrick's Park in Enniscorthy.
Hard luck to the Senior Football team who were beaten in the semi final by Castletown on Saturday evening in Wexford Park.

Well done to Sarah O'Connor and Aine Ennis who were on the Co. Under 14 team who won the All Ireland Final last Saturday with Aine being Captain and Sarah scoring the winning point deep into injury time from a 45.
Huge congratulations from everyone in St. Martins to the Wexford Senior Camogie team who won their third All Ireland Senior Camogie title in a row last Sunday.  Well done to our girls, Mags, Noeleen. Lisa, Linda and Barbara and everyone involved with this historic victory.

The U9's throw in at 1pm - and face Mount Sion, Abbeyside and Mullinavat.
The U8's throw in at 2.30pm - and face teams from GraigBallycallan, Thomastown and Abbeyside.

All roads lead to Wexford Park tomorrow as our senior footballers face Castletown in the county semi final. Throw in 6pm. The team have been the underdog all year and will bid to create history by reaching the clubs first ever senior football final.
In the group phase of the Championship the Martin's beat tomorrow's rivals at the end of July on a scoreline of 1-13 to 2-7. Here's hoping for a similar result tomorrow. Best of luck to all involved.
