Saturday saw another very successful edition of our annual Tony Boggan tournament when our younger boys and girls, from under 6 to under 10, take part in a hurling blitz event and medals, cups and crisps are presented at the end of the day. Well over 100 kids took place and great thanks is due to Jim, Caroline and all the Boggan family for their continued sponsorship of this event which is now in its 15th year. Our celebrity medal presenter was Ciaran Lyng who had a kind word for each and every child.

Immediately after, our under 14 boys played a challenge game against Marshalstown to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the passing of John Byrne who died from an injury sustained playing for the club against the same opponents in the 1984 county final. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. The match itself was played very sportingly and provided the large crowd with great entertainment

On the playing front, it was a disappointing week for both our senior footballers and hurlers, although the footballers are still well placed for the knockout stages. Our hurlers however had a tough lesson, losing to Shelmaliers in Wexford Park, and thereby missing out on the knockout stages. Their next game, against Adamstown, is now critical as the losers of that will have to play Faythe Harriers in the relegation playoff.

There was better news however on the underage front as we had a good win for the minor footballers on Thursday night against Starlights. Their 6-15 to 3-11 win qualifies the lads for the football semifinals, as well as the hurling knockout stages. Meanwhile, our under 16 footballers played Shelmaliers last night in the county semi-final and lost a tight game on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-9. A great effort was put in by the boys and, while they had their chances, we wish the best of luck to Shels in the final where they will play HWH-Bunclody. The same boys also played two good hurling challenge matches in the previous week, away to James Stephens of Kilkenny and at home to the county under 15 development squad. Our minor hurlers played O’Loughlin Gaels of Kilkenny in a challenge match on Tuesday in New Ross and came away with a very impressive 2-13 to 1-6 win.

Our under 9 and 10 footballers, meanwhile, played Fintans, Volunteers and Gusserane last night in Parc Charman in the Kent Stainless football and our under 10 girls had a great win last night away to Crossabeg. Our under 12 girls football team had a great performance against Clonard on Wednesday, winning a very tight contest by 3-7 to 3-5, to earn themselves a place in the shield final.

Our under 16 camogie girls came away with a win over Oulart in their championship game last Monday. They are building nicely and continue on Sunday next with a home game to Craanford at 6pm. Our under 16b camogie team was unfortunate to lose out in their quarter final on Saturday last against a strong Oylegate team. All of the girls are under 14 and they gave a very good account of themselves. The Senior team came away with a comprehensive win over Bunclody, thereby securing a quarter final spot away to neighbours Glynn-Barntown on Wednesday 27th August. Meanwhile our intermediate team beat St. Ibars last night, Wednesday, in Piercestown in the championship.
