Under 21 football

Action on the playing fields is nearly at a close after our under 21 footballers lost a tight semi-final to a fine Fethard team on Saturday. Our lads will look back on this match with some regret as they were playing at home and had a one-man advantage for the last 15 minutes of the game but, despite plenty of possession, they were unable to open up a well-drilled St. Mogues team who ran out winners by 2-7 to 0-11. We wish them the very best of luck in the county final. We also congratulate our under 21 panel on doing so well in both codes during the year; great credit is due to their management.

Ladies football

Possibly the last bit of on-field action this year will be tomorrow, Saturday November 29th when our ladies’ football minors play their county final versus Munn-Abban Gaels at 2pm  in Rathangan. It’s been a long year for this bunch of girls but hopefully it will be worth the wait. Best of luck to all involved and hopefully a good crowd of club supporters will make the short trip to Rathangan to cheer on the girls.

AGMs

Our attention now turns to Club administration and today, Friday 28th, the Coiste na nÓg will have its AGM in the Centre at 8pm.  Please note that details of tonight’s Coiste AGM (e.g. committee / coaching nominations, list of outgoing officers etc) are available on this website at the “Downloads Section”. We will also have hard copies of the papers available on the night (for the first 30 attendees!).

The following week will be the turn of the senior committee for its AGM on December 5th and it is hoped to decide on the adult coaching teams at that meeting. All interested parents, players and mentors are asked to attend the AGMs.  Camogie County Convention is on December 1st and the club's camogie AGM will be held early in the new year. The ladies’ football AGM will be on Sunday 11th January at 2pm. With our underage numbers increasing every year we would like to see more people getting involved be it in a small or big way on or off the pitch - all help would be much appreciated. Any queries on how to get involved please contact Fiona Hayes on 087.2984240

Medal presentations

On Sunday, 30 November, our under 12 boys will be presented with their hurling and football medals for the year at 6pm in the Centre. Saturday December 6th has been pencilled in for a combined medal presentation night for our minors and under 21s and details of this will be confirmed in due course.

Irish Scholarships

Paid-up club members aged 14-18 who wish to apply for a Gaeltacht Scholarship in Summer 2015 are asked to submit their names to Cian Ó Lionáin, the Club’s Oifigeach Gaeilge, by Friday January 16th. Cian can be contacted at 087.9020087 or by replying to this email. There are 14 places available to Coiste na nÓg Loch Garman (Residential Course) for the last week in June and the first 2 weeks in July (exact dates to be confirmed). The Scholarship, which is co-funded by the Coiste na nÓg County Board and the Clubs, covers two-thirds of the cost of the Course with one-third of the cost (€233 paid by the player). The Course takes place in Coláiste Aodáin, Carraroe, Co. Galway (for further details see www.colaisteaodain.com). Summer courses are designed to improve students’ fluency and develop their understanding of Irish in a fun and educational environment. The courses are fully accredited by the Department of Education and the Department of the Gaeltacht.  Each Club can make 2 nominations so, if more than 2 paid-up club members put their names forward, the Club’s nominations will be selected by a draw. The County Board has said that it will give priority to Clubs that did not receive a scholarship last year (St. Martin’s falls into that category). Scholarships will be allocated by a draw at February’s County Board meeting.

Scór na nÓg

A massive “well done” to Niamh Bridges who has won through to the county Scór talent final (in the Recitation category) and we wish her well as she prepares to represent the Club in the county final in Oulart.

Club Lotto

The Club Lotto numbers drawn on Sunday 23rd were 10, 17, 18 and 25 and there were no overall winners which means the giant jackpot of €15,000 rolls over for another week. Anyone wishing to sign up to the Lotto need only approach any Committee member.
