Coiste na nÓg

The first Coiste meeting of the year took place on Monday 27th and . The Club’s nominees for the GAA Gaeltacht Scholarships were drawn out of a hat at the meeting and the 2 lucky candidates, from a total field of 6, are Claire Culleton and Niamh Bridges. Hopefully they will be successful when the County Board selects its 14 scholarship nominees. Saturday circuits training, delivered by DMP Athletics Club, continues in the Hall at 4pm for our under 14 boys and girls and at 5pm for our under 16s. Each age group is asked to be in attendance 15 minutes before the session begins and to bring a €2 fee and their own water bottle.

Meanwhile, commiserations to our minor footballers who lost their O’Loughlin Cup semi-final on Sunday, at home to Rathgarogue-Cushinstown, by two points.

The Camogie Club’s AGM took place on Sunday January 24th and, after 10 years in the hot-seat, Maire O’Connor stood down as Chairperson to take on a more hands-on role with the senior team. The elected officers for 2015 are as follows:

Congratulations to Colm McGee who has been appointed as manager of the Wexford senior camogie team. He will be assisted by Mick Curran (Craanford-Monaseed) and John Kelly (St. Ibar's/Shelmalier), plus the team administrator, our own Barbara Ryan.

There was great success recently for St. Martin’s men in the handball county finals as Seán Stanners won the Junior 'C' singles against Robert Doyle from St. Joseph's (21-15, 21-17). His brother David then won the Junior ‘D’ title in an all-Martins final against Paddy Curran on a scoreline of 17-21, 21-13, 21-11. Seán then completed a Junior 'C' double when he was joined by James Stanners to win the doubles championship in a fantastic three-set final against Danny and Fergal McWilliams. The score in that match was 20-21, 21-4, 21-14.

Information Talk

All players and parents are invited to a talk by Therese Hogan, a dietician, in the Centre on Thursday 29 January at 8pm. Knowing the what and why of good nutrition is a key ingredient for a healthy athlete so we’d encourage everyone to attend this talk.

Texas Hold ‘Em

Any card-players are invited to the Club this Sunday night for a Texas Hold ‘Em game. There’s a €10 game entry stake with one buy-back available at €5 and the evening will start at 9pm and finish by 11.30pm. It’s hoped that this will become a regular Sunday-night event.
