2015 Weekly Newsletter, no.7, 26 February

Well done to all club members who represented different county teams over the weekend. Daithi Waters and Willie Devereux came away from Tullamore with a fine win while Marie Claire Morrissey, Amy Ryan and Aisling O’Connor play with the county intermediate camogie team who lost narrowly to Westmeath by 0-9 to 0-7. Five girls, Sarah O’Connor, Aine Ennis, Lauren Carty, Chloe Fox and Amy Cardiff, lined out with the county minor camogie team who lost to Tipperary by 1-15 to 2-6. Well done to Aoife McAuliffe, Rachael Bridges and Lesley Bates who were part of the county intermediate team who had their first win in the league away to Longford at the weekend.

Camogie news

We had our 2014 camogie medals presentation on Thursday last. The under 10 and 12 girls were presented with their medals by our own county minors who won Leinster last year, captained by Muireann Byrne and also with Amy Cardiff, Katie O’Connor, Chloe Fox, Lauren Carty and Sarah O’Connor. The under 14 league championship and Féile winners were presented with their medals by Noeleen Lambert who also presented runner-up medals to our under 16s and premier winning medals to our under 18s. New chairperson Liz Cullen presented the outgoing Chairperson Maire O’Connor with a bouquet of flowers and thanked her for all her work over the last ten years as chairperson.

Ladies Football

Our adult season kicks off next Sunday with the 1st round of league. Time and venue to be confirmed. This year we have new managment in place and we wish Paudge and his team the very best for the coming season. Best of luck also to Clodagh Walsh and Aisling Alouf who are playing with the county u14 team on Saturday against Westmeath. The intermediate team’s next game is at home to Fermanagh on Sunday in Wexford  Park at 2.00. Best of luck to Emma Codd, Niamh Dunne and Becky Hamliton who are playing with the county u 16 team on Saturday against Meath.

Coiste na nÓg

Our under 8 boys will get their season underway on March 7th as they participate in the  11-a-sideBannow-Ballymitty indoor ground hurling competition. The first round involves games against Rathgarogue/Cushinstown and Gusserane. Games will consist of  2x 12 minute halves with a 5 minute break at half-time. Boys and girls under 14 teams have resumed training in preparation for Féile and most of the other underage teams will resume in early March.

A Foundation Level coaching course begins in the Club this Thursday 26th at 6.45pm and any coaches not already having some qualifications are asked to attend this. The cost of the course is €20, to be paid on Thursday but the club will reimburse a portion of that on completion.

Player registration for Coiste will take place next week on March 3rd and 6th from 7-8.30pm and we’d ask that all players, coaches etc come to the Club on one of those nights to get registered.

Club Lotto

The Club Lotto numbers drawn last Sunday, February 22nd were 1, 14, 15 and 22 and there was one “match 3” winner who gets €50, so well done Joe Caulfield. The giant jackpot prize of €15,000 remains to be won so we’d encourage anyone thinking of signing up to the Lotto to contact any Committee member as soon as possible. For just €4/week, by the convenience of direct debit, you can put yourself in line for a big payout while also helping the Club’s finances.
